Wellness this. Wellness that. What really is it and how can it benefit you?

In my journey of opening CURA, I’ve found that some of the most commonly asked questions are: “What kind of wellness center are you opening? A wellness center can be anything.” “What exactly are you doing?” And honestly, I think that’s the most beautiful thing about wellness – It looks differently for everyone. 


As society continues to evolve and we create space for proactive health, wellness isn’t a one size fits all. Throughout my life, and especially during college studying health sciences, I was under the impression that health was a straight line. Go to your yearly physicals, eat the food pyramid (remember those?), exercise occasionally and if something seems off make an appointment with your primary care physician. However as I immerse myself more in the wellness industry I’ve been fortunate enough to learn that being “healthy” looks vastly different for everyone. How people achieve “health” is equally unique. At its core wellness can be anything and everything so long as it serves the best interest of your mind, body and soul. 


CURA Wellness is a center that focuses on the physical body, keeping it free of pain and in its best possible state. For us, that's how we aim to service the health community. Fortunately wellness is multifaceted. It might look like a relaxing facial and a relaxing massage that helps regulate the nervous system, bringing someone with a high stress job into a more parasympathetic (rest and digest) state. For another it could be 30 minutes in the infrared sauna allowing time to self while detoxing and relieving tension. It can be a 60-minute bodywork session for someone that hasn’t seen a pain free day in weeks. Or a calm session of IV fluids for the overworked. It can be a yoga class, a cold plunge, some acupuncture and so much more. However health looks to you, allow it into your life. 


These practices and services that fall under a wellness center are essential in our day to day. The hustle and bustle of modern day life forces us to push our health to the side instead of prioritizing proactive health. Staying proactive with your body and health allows room for growth in so many other areas of our life. 


We all know that saying “when we look good we feel good.” When we throw on our favorite dress or our favorite suit we feel our best. But what happens if our best self is our own healthy, able bodies? No, I am not saying go out in your birthday suit!! But what I am saying is, what if EVERY SINGLE TIME you walk out of your house your body, your mind, your spirit makes you feel good. Whether it be in a sweatsuit, jeans, or a robe to run out and grab the mail, the goal should be allowing that to be the new metric. Imagine a world where you feel your best every single day. Think about what you can accomplish in your career, social life, romantic life, long term goals, even your wildest dreams. Feeling your best makes these aspirations not only possible but obtainable. Don’t wait until you have to react to health conditions, instead stay proactive in this thing we call life.
